If you had to rig up your own home security on a tight budget, what would you do?

Have you tried any of those fake security cameras? They’re surprisingly convincing from a distance, though I’m not sure how much they actually deter anyone...

I get the appeal of fake cameras, especially for the price, but I’ve seen too many cases where folks just ignore them after a while. Real deterrence seems to come from actual lights and real cameras, even if they’re basic models. Personally, I’d rather put my budget toward a couple of entry-point cameras that actually record. That way, if something does happen, you’ve got footage—peace of mind is worth a little extra wiring hassle.
