Not gonna lie, I’ve had a client insist on using those online maps to figure out where their new deck could go. We cross-referenced three different GIS sites and got three slightly different answers. In the end, they went with a surveyor, and it turned out there was an old utility easement right where they wanted to build. The money spent up front definitely avoided a mess later. I do wish the tech would catch up, but for now, nothing beats boots on the ground—and a pro with the right tools.
