Neighbor wants driveway access through my property—is this normal?

Haha, been there. My cousin had a similar setup, and it wasn't just snow—think deliveries blocking the driveway or visitors parking awkwardly. Definitely second getting clear agreements upfront... saves a lot of awkward convos later.

Couldn't agree more. When we first moved in, our neighbors asked for driveway access "just occasionally," and we thought, sure, why not? Fast forward a few months, and "occasionally" turned into daily. Had to have a friendly but firm chat to reset expectations. Lesson learned: clear boundaries from day one make life easier for everyone involved.

Did you ever check if there's an easement on your property deed? Sometimes neighbors assume access rights exist when they don't... might be worth double-checking to avoid future misunderstandings.

Totally agree about checking the deed—people often assume they have rights just because "it's always been that way." When we bought our place, the neighbors casually mentioned driveway access too. I dug into the property records (county websites usually have them free online), and turns out there was no easement at all. Saved us from a potential headache down the line. Better to clarify now than deal with awkward confrontations later...

Good catch on the deed check—it's surprising how often people overlook this step. I'd also recommend sketching out a quick site plan showing your property lines and any existing structures or driveways. Doesn't have to be fancy, just enough to visualize clearly what's yours. I've found even a rough sketch can make conversations with neighbors way less awkward, since you're both literally on the same page. Plus, it helps you brainstorm creative solutions if an easement isn't possible...
