Interesting, I've actually found fabric wrapping pretty helpful, but you're rightβ€”it definitely depends on soil type. With heavy clay here, skipping fabric led to clogged pipes in no time. Gravel alone just didn't cut it... guess drainage really isn't one-size-fits-all.

Had a similar experience when developing a property on clay-heavy ground. Initially thought gravel alone would do the trick, but nope... ended up with standing water after every rainstorm. Fabric wrapping definitely improved things, but honestly, I found adding a slight slope to the drainage pipes made the biggest difference. Makes me wonder if it's less about fabric vs gravel and more about getting the angle just right?
