Making the switch to water-saving toilets: Worth it?

I’ve actually noticed the same thing—less buildup with the better dual-flush models, which I didn’t expect at first. On a few of my projects, the pricier units really did seem to stay cleaner longer. Still, I’ve run into a couple that needed more frequent adjustments than I’d like... so it’s not always a slam dunk. But when you get a good one, the water savings and lower maintenance are hard to argue with.

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same—some of the higher-end dual-flush toilets do a better job staying clean, but I’ve had a couple that needed fiddling with the flush valve every few months. Did you find any brands more reliable for you? I’m curious if it’s just luck of the draw, or if certain models are less finicky in the long run. It’s hard to beat the savings though... my water bill dropped a noticeable chunk after switching over.

Funny enough, I’ve had the same “flush valve blues” with a couple of models. Some brands just seem more temperamental than others—had one Toto that ran like a champ for years, barely touched it, but then tried a cheaper off-brand in a rental and it was always acting up. Not sure if it’s just luck or what, but I do think the mid-to-higher end ones (Kohler, Toto, even American Standard sometimes) are less fussy in the long run.

Honestly, the water savings are no joke. I was kinda skeptical at first—didn’t want to end up plunging every other day—but it’s been way better than expected. The only thing that still bugs me is when you get one that’s “too efficient” and you gotta flush twice... sort of defeats the purpose, right? Still, I’d take a little extra maintenance over those old-school water hogs any day.
