Safe cleaning routine for motorized roller shades?

What’s the safest way to clean motorized roller shades when they’ve collected ordinary dust and a few light grime spots?

I’m trying to work out a routine that won’t damage the fabric, motor, battery compartment, or controls. The shades are roller-style, but I’m not sure whether the fabric is blackout, light-filtering, or something with a special coating. That seems important before using any cleaner.

Would you:

- Dust the fabric with a soft brush or vacuum upholstery attachment?
- Spot-clean with a barely damp cloth, or avoid moisture entirely?
- Remove the battery or disconnect power before cleaning?
- Keep the motor housing and control buttons completely dry?

I’m also unsure how to handle symptoms beyond surface dirt. Uneven movement or unusual noise seems more like a motor, tube, bracket, or alignment issue than a cleaning problem. For a stained section, should the fabric type and manufacturer’s care instructions determine whether it’s safe to try anything at home, with professional cleaning or service being the better option for coated, delicate, or blackout fabrics?
