What makes a standing-seam roof quiet and dry inside?
Standing-seam metal has a clean, durable look, but I’m curious how much the roof assembly determines what you hear indoors and how well it controls moisture. On a solid-sheathed roof, does the underlayment meaningfully reduce rain noise, or do insulation and the interior ceiling assembly matter more? I’d also like to understand whether sound in a vented attic should be considered separately from sound in the rooms below.
For condensation control, what should be coordinated among the roof deck, insulation, and any ventilation space? And which flashing or other detailing tends to matter most for keeping the assembly dry over time? I’m interested in how builders weigh these details without assuming metal roofing is automatically noisy or prone to condensation.
