Yeah, good points overall, but honestly, accreditation still matters more than you're giving it credit for. Sure, I've seen accredited lenders mess up too—but at least there's some accountability there. Had a buddy who went with a non-accredited lender because they had great word-of-mouth reviews... ended up being a nightmare when things went south. Accreditation isn't foolproof, but it's better than nothing when things get messy.

Fair enough, accreditation definitely adds a layer of protection. But beyond just checking accreditation, what about digging deeper into their actual track record? I've found it helpful to directly ask lenders for references from past clients who've faced issues—seeing how they handled tough situations can be pretty revealing. Curious if anyone here has tried that approach and how lenders typically respond when asked...?

I've actually tried asking for references before, and honestly, reactions were mixed. Some lenders were totally open and gave me contacts right away, while others seemed a bit hesitant...which itself was pretty telling. Definitely worth trying, though—can't hurt to ask, right?

- Totally agree, asking for references is a solid first step.
- I'd also suggest checking online reviews—especially the negative ones—to see patterns or red flags.
- And sometimes just paying attention to your gut feeling can tell you a lot...

Couldn't agree more with this. I've found that even after checking references and reviews, sometimes a lender just doesn't feel right. A few years back, I was about to sign with someone who had glowing reviews, but something felt off during our conversations—like they were rushing me or glossing over details. Decided to trust my instincts and went elsewhere. Turned out to be the best decision I made during that whole home-buying process...
