WHERE DO YOU EVEN START WITH HIRING SOMEONE TO DESIGN YOUR HOUSE?
I hear you on the credentials thing—some of the most stunning homes I’ve toured were designed by people who just “got it,” not necessarily those with a stack of degrees. That said, I’m always a bit wary when folks downplay experience too much. There’s a difference between creative vision and knowing how to actually pull off a complex build, especially if you want high-end finishes or cutting-edge green tech.
Curious—has anyone here actually worked with a design/build firm versus hiring an architect and separate builder? I’ve found the all-in-one approach can cut down on headaches, but maybe that’s just my bias after one too many horror stories with architects who didn’t listen...
