Sink fixtures driving me nuts lately
SINK FIXTURES DRIVING ME NUTS LATELY
Funny you mention matte black - I had high hopes for it in a model home last year, but it was a losing battle with water spots and fingerprints. Looked amazing for the open house, but after a week of walkthroughs, it was clear it just wasn’t practical for high-traffic areas. Brushed finishes definitely hide a multitude of sins.
I’ve noticed touchless faucets are becoming more common, especially in new builds, but I’m still on the fence. They’re convenient, but I’ve had a few that were too sensitive or not sensitive enough, which gets old fast. Anyone else find the tech can be a bit hit or miss?
Curious if anyone’s tried those integrated sink/faucet combos - like the ones where the faucet is part of the sink itself? I’ve seen them in some higher-end developments, but I haven’t lived with one myself. Wondering if they’re actually easier to keep clean or just another design headache in disguise...

Matte black is a pain, no doubt. I’ve seen it in a few spec homes and it always looks great for about five minutes - then the water spots show up and ruin the effect. Brushed nickel or stainless seems to be the least maintenance-heavy, at least from what I’ve seen.
Touchless faucets are a mixed bag. We tried them in a few multi-family units and got complaints about inconsistent activation, especially when people had soapy hands or the sensor got blocked by a dish. Sometimes the tech just isn’t quite there yet for everyday use.
As for those integrated sink/faucet combos, I’ve only seen them in high-end kitchens and commercial spaces. They look sleek, but I wonder about long-term maintenance. If the faucet part fails, does that mean replacing the whole sink? That could get expensive fast...

I get the hesitation with integrated combos, but I’ve actually had a decent experience with one in a rental property. The faucet started leaking after a couple years, but the manufacturer sent out a replacement part that was pretty easy to swap in - didn’t have to touch the sink itself. Maybe it depends on the brand? I will say, though, I’m with you on matte black. Looks great for about a week and then it’s just constant wiping... not worth the hassle if you’re trying to keep costs down.

Matte black is such a tease - looks amazing until you realize every water spot and fingerprint is now your sworn enemy. I’ve had better luck with brushed nickel, honestly. Integrated combos are hit or miss for me, too... some brands just don’t hold up.
Totally get what you mean about matte black - had a client insist on it last year, and I swear we spent more time wiping fingerprints than actually using the sink. Brushed nickel’s been my go-to for ages, mostly because it hides smudges and holds up. I’ve tried a few “eco” fixtures too, but some of the integrated ones just don’t last. Sometimes the simple stuff really is better.
