Waterfall edges definitely have that “wow” factor, but I’m with you—rounded edges just make life easier, especially if you’ve got kids or anyone who tends to bump into things (which, let’s be honest, is most of us). When we did our kitchen, I was tempted by the waterfall look too. It’s like art for your counters. But after seeing my neighbor’s setup, I noticed how quickly those vertical sides picked up scuffs from shoes and bags. She’s constantly wiping them down.

One thing I’d add: if you’re thinking about resale value, classic edges seem to appeal to more buyers. Trends come and go, but comfort sticks around. Also, if you ever want to swap out stools or change up your island seating, those waterfall sides can limit your options more than you’d think.

If you’re set on a statement piece, maybe try a waterfall on just one side or a smaller section? That way you get the look without committing everywhere. Either way, congrats on the upgrade—it’s such a game changer having new counters.
