I get why you passed on it; lining up those seams is no joke. Color selection is probably my biggest gripe with prefab.

Not sure I totally agree on the prefab color limits. I’ve seen a lot more options pop up lately, especially if you dig around smaller suppliers or check out warehouse overstock. Might not be your “dream” shade, but sometimes you stumble on something better than what you had in mind. As for edge treatments, yeah, the router trick works, but I’ve had prefab chip on me more than once - definitely a risk if you’re not careful. Custom’s pricey, but sometimes you pay for peace of mind.

Funny you mention that - my neighbor scored this wild blue-gray slab from a local warehouse that I never would’ve picked from a catalog, but it looks amazing in her kitchen. Sometimes the “not-quite-right” color ends up being the thing you love most. I do get the frustration, though, if you’ve got a super specific vision.

That made me laugh - my attempt at a “simple” roundover edge turned into a jagged mess. Lesson learned. I’m with you on the prefab colors, though. Bold color? Yep, went with deep green quartzite. Here’s why:

- Tired of seeing the same whites and greys everywhere.
- Natural light made the green pop, not overpower the room.
- Honestly, guests either love it or look confused. I’ll take unique over safe any day.

If you’re second-guessing, just remember: it’s your space. Worst case, throw in some bold decor to test the waters before you commit. Worked for me... sort of.
