Title: Is It Worth Paying More For A Fully Insured Contractor Or Just Going With The Cheaper Uninsured Guy?
Had a project a few years back where I went with the “insured” crew because it was a big job—foundation work, lots of liability. They had all the paperwork, but when a water line got hit, it turned into a finger-pointing circus between their insurance and mine. Took months to sort out, and in the end, I still had to pay out of pocket for some repairs. On smaller jobs, I’ve hired guys who didn’t have insurance but had solid references and pride in their work—never had an issue. For anything structural or risky, though, I just can’t bring myself to roll the dice. Too much at stake if something goes sideways.
