Is it worth paying more for a fully insured contractor or just going with the cheaper uninsured guy?

Alright, I’m stuck between two options for some home repairs and could use some outside perspective. There’s this one contractor who’s fully insured, has all the paperwork, references, the whole nine yards. But his quote is like 30% higher than this other guy who’s… well, not insured (at least not that he mentioned), but comes recommended by a neighbor and seems to do decent work. I get that insurance is supposed to protect me if something goes wrong—like if someone gets hurt or they mess up my property. But honestly, I’ve had friends go with uninsured folks before and it worked out fine for them. On the other hand, I’ve also heard horror stories about people getting sued because a worker fell off a ladder or whatever. Is the peace of mind really worth the extra cash? Or am I just overthinking it and should save the money? Has anyone here actually had to deal with an insurance claim or regret not hiring someone legit? Just curious what people would do in my shoes—go with the safe (expensive) bet or take a chance on saving some bucks?
