Weekend crafts: do you prefer building from scratch or upcycling old stuff?

Quick poll for the crafty folks lurking around here—when you get the urge to make something, do you usually start with raw materials (like, wood planks, fabric, etc.) or do you like to repurpose stuff you already have lying around? I always think I’m gonna be the person who builds a bookshelf from scratch, but then I see an old crate or busted chair and suddenly I’m all about “giving it new life,” lol. I guess both have their charm, but sometimes upcycling feels a bit more satisfying? Or maybe just less intimidating than measuring and cutting everything perfectly. Anyway, curious what everyone else tends to do. Do you have a go-to method or do you just wing it depending on what’s in your garage?

Some projects just aren’t worth the headache.

Totally get that, but I’ll admit—I’m still tempted to try and rescue stuff if it means saving money. Ever had a piece where you regretted tossing it later? I keep thinking about this old chair I chucked that maybe could’ve been fixed up... but yeah, sometimes it’s just not worth the hassle or the smell. How do you decide when to call it quits?
