If you’re after low hassle and a clean look that lasts, I’d stick with concrete or stone pavers.
That’s been my experience too—gravel always seems easier at first, but it’s a pain to keep tidy. Pavers are more work upfront, but they really do hold up. Have you looked into permeable options? Those can help with drainage on flat lots.
