GLASS CABINETS: PRACTICAL OR JUST PRETTY?

I get what you mean about the glass making you keep things tidier—having everything on display is a real motivator. But I keep wondering, does it ever get annoying having to keep the insides “presentable” all the time? I love the look, but I’m worried I’d end up shoving stuff in random drawers just to avoid the glass cabinets looking messy. Anyone else find that balance tricky, or am I overthinking it?

Totally get the worry about shoving stuff in random drawers just to keep the glass neat. I’ve wondered the same—like, is it really worth the extra effort? But honestly, if you’re already pretty organized, maybe it’s not such a big deal. Maybe just use glass for your favorite things and keep the rest behind solid doors? That way you don’t have to stress every time someone comes over.

I’ll be honest, glass cabinets are mostly for people who can handle a little pressure to keep things looking sharp. If you’re the type who hates clutter, they’ll keep you honest. But if you’ve got three kids and a dog, you might end up resenting all that extra cleaning. I tell clients all the time—use glass for the stuff you actually want to see, like your grandma’s dishes or those fancy glasses you never use. Everything else? Hide it away and save yourself the headache.

I’ve actually had clients regret going all-in on glass fronts, especially in busy households. One family wanted a sleek, open look, but after a year, fingerprints and mismatched mugs drove them nuts. My usual approach is to mix it up—glass uppers for display, solid lowers for the chaos. It’s kind of like framing a picture: you want to highlight the good stuff and keep the rest tucked away. Honestly, unless you’re super organized or love cleaning, moderation’s key.

Totally get this. I’d add that glass cabinets can also be a sustainability win if you use recycled or reclaimed glass. But yeah, in real life, it’s tough to keep them smudge-free unless you’re a minimalist or just love cleaning. Sometimes the “pretty” factor just isn’t worth the hassle, especially with kids running around.
