If your builder keeps you in the loop and actually explains the delays, that’s usually a good sign.
That’s been my experience too, but I’d add a couple steps that helped me keep things on track. First, I started keeping a running list of what was delayed and why—just a simple spreadsheet. Second, I’d ask for updated timelines in writing every time something shifted. It’s not about being pushy, just having a paper trail if things really go sideways. I’ve found most legit builders don’t mind that at all. If they get weird about it, that’s when I’d start to dig deeper.
