What builder references say about schedule and budget
A former client can be happy with the finished house and still have useful concerns about delays or cost changes along the way. What do you ask references to understand how the builder actually managed those?
I’d want to compare the original schedule and budget with the final outcomes, and hear how the builder explained delays, allowances, or changes that affected cost. How much weight do you give a reference if their project had a very different scope or site from the one being considered? And how do you tell whether the references offered give a representative picture of the builder’s work?
