Totally get where you’re coming from—sometimes all those “smart” features just end up being more work than they’re worth. I’ve tried layering in too many zones before, and honestly, it got confusing fast. Your two-zone approach with dimmers sounds like a solid move. Sometimes, dialing it back really does make the space feel more luxurious and intentional, not less.

I’ve seen so many people get sucked into the “more is better” mindset with lighting, and honestly, it rarely pans out. There’s this idea that if you have six different scenes and every bulb is on a separate app, it’ll somehow feel high-end. In reality, it’s just a headache. Two zones with dimmers? That’s practical and, frankly, more in line with how people actually use a space.

One thing I’d add—sometimes it’s tempting to chase the latest tech, but even the best smart systems can get buggy or just plain annoying. I’ve had clients call me back because their “smart” lights stopped responding or the app updated and now nothing works. Keeping things simple isn’t just easier, it’s more reliable.

Your approach sounds intentional, not basic. There’s a lot to be said for restraint. If the space feels better to you, that’s what matters. Sometimes less really is more, especially when it comes to lighting.

Lighting Tweaks Made My Workspace Way Better

I keep wondering if I’m overthinking it when I try to map out all these different lighting “zones.” Is there actually a point where having more options just makes things worse? I tried some smart bulbs with scenes and honestly, half the time I just wanted to flip a switch. Do you ever find that dimmers alone are enough, or do you miss the flexibility of all those scenes? I feel like I want to try the simplest setup first and only add more if I really need it.

I get where you’re coming from. I’ve worked on a few office builds where folks wanted every possible lighting option, and honestly, most ended up sticking with a couple of dimmers and calling it good. Sometimes too many choices just slow you down. I’d say start simple—if you find yourself wishing for more, you can always add later. No shame in keeping it straightforward.

Honestly, I’m with you—sometimes I just want to hit a switch and move on. I tried those color-changing bulbs, but after the novelty wore off, it felt like overkill. Are dimmers actually worth the extra cost though? Or just another gadget to break?
