Specialty bulbs are still a pain though—my clients always ask why their fridge light is so harsh, but there just aren’t great LED options yet.

Yeah, the fridge light thing bugs me too. I swapped ours for an LED and it’s like opening a portal to another dimension—way too bright and cold. I’m curious, has anyone actually found a decent “warm” LED for appliances? Or is it just something we have to live with for now? I feel like I notice it more than anyone else in my house, but maybe I’m just picky.

- Honestly, I kind of like the super-bright fridge light. Makes it easier to see what’s hiding in the back, especially late at night.
- Warm LEDs are nice in living spaces, but for appliances? Not sure it matters as much. Maybe I’m just less sensitive to the color temp.
- That said, I do get why people find it harsh. The options are pretty limited right now... but I’d rather deal with that than go back to those tiny incandescent bulbs that burn out every year.

- I swapped most of my bulbs for LEDs a while back, mainly to cut down on the electric bill. The fridge light is definitely way brighter now, but honestly, I’ll take that over having to replace those old bulbs all the time.
- Anyone else notice some LEDs flicker a bit when they’re about to go? Or is that just me being cheap and buying off-brand ones...
- Curious—has anyone found a decent dimmable LED for appliances, or are we all just stuck with “full blast” mode?

Switching To Energy-Saving Bulbs: How Many Of Your Lights Are Actually LEDs?

I’ve swapped out nearly every bulb in my house for LEDs over the last couple years, mostly because I got tired of climbing ladders to replace those old incandescents in awkward spots. The energy savings are nice, but honestly, the convenience factor is what sold me. I do get what you mean about the fridge light—mine’s almost blinding now when I reach for a midnight snack. Not sure if that’s a feature or a bug.

About the flickering, I’ve noticed it too, especially with some of the cheaper brands I picked up during sales. Sometimes it’s just a compatibility thing with older dimmer switches, but I’ve had a few bulbs start flickering before they died completely. It’s not just you.

As for dimmable LEDs for appliances, I haven’t found a great one yet. Tried a couple in my range hood and they either buzzed or just ignored the dimmer entirely. Seems like we’re still stuck with “on or off” for most appliance LEDs... unless someone’s got a secret brand I haven’t heard of.

Couldn’t agree more—the hassle of dragging out a step ladder every few months was enough to make me rethink my whole lighting setup. I’ve swapped nearly all my fixtures for high-end LEDs at this point, mostly for the longevity and the way they let me fine-tune ambiance. That said, I’m picky about color temperature, and I find a lot of cheaper LEDs are either too blue or make everything look washed out. It’s worth paying extra for bulbs with high CRI ratings if you care about how your space actually looks.

On the flickering issue, it’s almost always a compatibility problem with legacy dimmers or cheap drivers. I had to upgrade several dimmer switches when I redid my media room—painful upfront cost, but now everything dims smoothly without that annoying buzz or strobe effect.

About appliance LEDs... yeah, same story here. My wine fridge came with a “dimmable” LED strip that just sort of flickers when you try to adjust it. Seems like the market for quality appliance LEDs hasn’t caught up with the rest yet. Maybe in another year or two? For now, I just stick with on/off and call it a day.
