Title: Freshening Up Baseboards With That “One Coat” Paint—Worth It?

I’ve run into the same thing—those “one coat” paints rarely deliver, especially on trim that’s seen better days. Even with the pricier brands, I almost always end up doing a second coat for a uniform finish. Primer really is a lifesaver, especially if you’re covering old oil-based paint or anything glossy. One thing I’ve noticed: if you’re dealing with intricate profiles or older wood, a small angled brush helps get into those grooves without leaving streaks. It’s a bit more time upfront, but the results look much sharper.

Honestly, I think the “one coat” paints get a bad rap sometimes. If you prep right—clean, sand, and use a decent brush—I’ve had solid results on newer trim. Not perfect every time, but it’s saved me hours on big projects. Maybe it’s just luck or the brand, but I wouldn’t write them off completely. Sometimes the extra cost is worth skipping a second round, especially if you’re flipping or updating rentals fast.
