Anyone else feel awkward talking to their TV?

I get what you mean about the futuristic vibe, but I still can’t shake the awkwardness. Maybe it’s just me, but talking to a TV feels a bit like talking to myself… and half the time it doesn’t even pick up what I’m saying. I end up repeating commands or just grabbing the remote anyway. Guess I’m old school, but there’s something satisfying about pressing actual buttons.

I get the appeal of physical buttons, but honestly, for the price difference, I’d rather skip the voice feature altogether. Most of those “smart” remotes just add to the cost and don’t work half the time, like you said. I’ve found budget models without the voice function are way more reliable—and no awkward conversations with your TV required.

Totally get where you’re coming from—there’s just something about the tactile feedback of real buttons that feels right. But I’ll admit, I’ve actually grown to like the voice feature for certain things, like searching for obscure movie titles. Still, it’s hit or miss. Sometimes it gets my accent all wrong and I end up repeating myself... which is kind of embarrassing if anyone else is in the room. Do you think the tech will ever get good enough to make it worth the extra cost? Or is it always going to be a bit gimmicky?

- I get the awkwardness, especially when my partner walks in and I’m mid-conversation with the TV... feels a bit silly.
- Tried using voice commands to turn off the lights (integrated system), but half the time it thinks I said “play Twilight” instead. Not exactly energy efficient.
- Honestly, I still reach for the remote most days. The tech’s getting better, but unless it saves real time or energy, I’m not convinced it’s worth the extra cost yet.
- Maybe in a few years, once it understands mumbling and background noise? For now, it’s just another gadget that sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t.

- I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I’ve found voice controls pretty handy—especially when my hands are full or I’m coming in from outside. Sure, it mishears me sometimes (had it play “Twilight” when I just wanted the porch light off… awkward), but it’s saved me a few trips across the room. The tech’s not perfect, but I figure it’s like early smartphones—clunky at first, then suddenly you can’t imagine life without ‘em. Maybe it’s just a matter of getting used to the quirks?
