Anyone else feel awkward talking to their TV?
The tech’s not perfect, but I figure it’s like early smartphones - clunky at first, then suddenly you can’t imagine life without ‘em.
That’s a fair comparison, though I’m still on the fence about whether voice controls are worth the extra cost. I get the convenience, especially when your hands are full, but I wonder if it really justifies upgrading my current setup. Has anyone noticed a real drop in their energy bills or any other practical savings since switching to voice-activated devices? Or is it mostly about convenience?

Honestly, I haven’t seen my bills shrink at all since adding voice controls. If anything, I just end up talking to my lamp and feeling silly when it doesn’t understand me. The convenience is nice when I’m juggling groceries, but for the price, I’m not convinced it’s a money-saver. Maybe I’m just too old-school, but flipping a switch isn’t that hard...
TALKING TO THE TV STILL FEELS WEIRD
I get where you're coming from. I tried out a voice-activated thermostat last year, thinking it’d help me save a bit on heating and cooling. Honestly? The savings weren’t that noticeable, and half the time I found myself repeating commands or just giving up and adjusting it manually anyway. Maybe I’m set in my ways, but sometimes it feels easier just to press the button.
As for talking to the TV, I still feel a bit silly doing it, especially if anyone else is in the room. My family gets a kick out of watching me try to get it to play the right show - sometimes it works, sometimes it thinks I said something completely different. The convenience is nice when it actually listens, but I wouldn’t say it’s saving me any money. For me, it’s more about having a neat gadget than any real practical benefit. If you’re hoping for lower bills, I wouldn’t count on voice controls alone.
ANYONE ELSE FEEL AWKWARD TALKING TO THEIR TV?
I totally get what you mean about feeling silly - honestly, I still catch myself glancing around to see if anyone’s watching before I ask the TV to find a show. It’s like, am I really talking to my furniture right now? I tried rearranging my living room to make the remote more accessible, thinking it’d help, but I still end up using voice commands sometimes out of sheer laziness. I agree, the tech is cool, but it’s not exactly life-changing. Maybe it’ll feel less weird as it gets more common... or maybe we’ll just get used to being a little awkward.
I get what you’re saying, but honestly, I still don’t see the point of paying extra for a TV just to talk to it. Half the time it misunderstands me anyway. Has anyone actually found voice commands save them time or money?
