Anyone else feel awkward talking to their TV?

Glad you mentioned this—I thought it was just me feeling weird talking to my TV. We had voice control set up when we moved into our new place, and at first it seemed pretty cool. But honestly, after a few weeks of repeating myself or waiting awkwardly for it to respond, I ended up grabbing the remote again. Now, lights and thermostat? Totally different story...but TVs just don't seem ready yet. Glad I'm not alone here!

Same here, tried it for a couple of weeks and just couldn't get past the awkwardness. Ever had guests over and tried using voice commands? It's like the TV decides that's the perfect moment to ignore you completely. Lights and thermostat are smooth sailing, but TVs...I dunno, maybe it's just me, but it feels like they're still stuck halfway between novelty and actual usefulness.

I've noticed the same thing with voice-controlled TVs in some of the homes I've built. Clients get excited about integrating voice commands into their entertainment setups, but after a few weeks, the novelty wears off and frustration sets in. One homeowner told me he felt like he was arguing with his TV more than watching it—especially when guests were around. On the other hand, voice-controlled lighting and thermostats seem to be a hit across the board.

Makes me wonder if it's just the complexity of TV interfaces that's causing the issue. Maybe simpler commands or better microphones would help? Or is it just inherently awkward talking to your TV compared to other devices around the house...

I've had similar experiences with voice-controlled TVs. Installed one at home thinking it'd simplify things, but ended up feeling silly repeating myself louder and slower each time it misunderstood me—especially awkward when friends were over. Honestly, I think it's partly psychological. Adjusting lights or temperature feels natural because it's quick and straightforward, but navigating TV menus verbally just feels clunky. Maybe simpler commands would help, but personally, I've gone back to the good old remote...

Totally agree with this. Voice commands work best when they're short and direct—like turning lights off or adjusting the thermostat. But TVs have too many layers of menus and options, making voice navigation feel awkward and inefficient. Plus, background noise from the TV itself often interferes. I've found simpler tech usually ends up being more practical in the long run... sticking with the remote myself.
