You’re spot on about calcimine—prepping those old surfaces is a whole different beast. I’ve had projects where even after scraping, washing, and priming, the finish just wouldn’t stick. Sometimes I think the “universal” primers are only universal if you’re dealing with perfect conditions. Honestly, I wish more manufacturers would address these older substrates instead of assuming everyone’s working with new construction. It’s a headache, but when you finally get it right, it’s pretty satisfying.
