Building budget tools: software vs. old-school spreadsheets?

I've had similar experiences—sometimes the fancy software just adds unnecessary complexity. Curious though, have you found spreadsheets limiting when scaling up to larger projects, or do they still hold their own?

Yeah, spreadsheets can definitely hit their limits once things get complex. When we built our house, the initial spreadsheet was great—simple, clear, easy to tweak. But halfway through, tracking multiple contractors, change orders, and unexpected costs got messy fast. Still, I prefer them over bloated software... just gotta be disciplined about keeping things organized and maybe splitting into multiple sheets when needed.
