The bang comes just after a fixture shuts off

What observations help tell whether an intermittent bang after a fixture shuts off is tied to that fixture, unsecured piping, or a broader pressure issue?

Would it help to note whether it happens with one fixture or several, whether it’s on the hot or cold side, and whether it’s one thump or a burst of vibration? I’m also curious what pressure readings or piping checks a plumber would use to narrow it down, and when an arrestor is appropriate rather than just treating the noise.

For the pressure readings, a static reading alone can miss the event: a plumber can compare it with the pressure during fixture shutoff using a gauge that captures brief peaks. A sharp spike at shutoff would support water hammer; persistently high static pressure points more toward a broader pressure-control issue. That distinction matters before choosing an arrestor, since it may be worth assessing pressure regulation first.
