WEEKEND CRAFTS: DO YOU PREFER BUILDING FROM SCRATCH OR UPCYCLING OLD STUFF?
I’m always torn because my wallet says “patch it up,” but my nerves say “just replace the whole thing.” Tried splicing once on a chair leg—looked okay, but I never trusted it to hold my weight. Anyone else get nervous about hidden weak spots when you repair instead of replace?
WEEKEND CRAFTS: DO YOU PREFER BUILDING FROM SCRATCH OR UPCYCLING OLD STUFF?
- Trust issues with repaired furniture? Oh, all the time. I’ve had a “fixed” side table that wobbled like it was auditioning for a dance show.
- Upcycling’s great for the budget and the planet, but yeah, sometimes you just can’t shake that feeling it might give out at the worst moment.
- If it’s a piece that’s mostly decorative, I’ll patch it up. If it’s something that needs to hold weight (like a chair), I usually end up starting fresh... peace of mind is worth a few extra bucks.
- Quick tip: wood glue and brackets can work wonders, but if you’re still nervous, maybe it’s time for a new project.
